Sarcoma Education

Andrew was passionate about raising awareness about Sarcoma. Below are some of the stats and figures that resonated with him as he was starting this foundation.

There are over 50 different sub types of sarcoma

About 17,070 new cases of sarcoma were diagnosed in the U.S. in 2021.

This figure is multiples higher globally (~400,000 cases per year)

Sarcoma represents 15% of all Childhood cancer cases

Sarcoma is the 4th Most common childhood cancer

Only hematological (leukemia and lymphoma), brain and spinal cord cancers, and wilms tumor see more cases

Sarcoma is the 2nd most deadly Childhood Cancer

Only certain types of childhood brain cancers such as glioblastoma remain more deadly than childhood sarcomas

Metastatic Sarcoma survival rates are relatively very low

The 5 year survival rates for metastatic soft tissue sarcoma, ewing sarcoma, and osteosarcoma are 15%, 38% and 27%, respectively.

Note that this figure is much more favorable for non-metastatic localized sarcoma that can be removed by surgery.

Andrew Sarcoma Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit in MA. EIN 93-1939239
